Free Wireless Access @ the Holmes Co
District Public Library
You are invited to explore The Holmes County
District Public Library's fast Internet network using your own laptop computer or
wireless-enabled device. Free access is provided during regular business hours in
most public seating areas in select WiFi-enabled library locations.

Simply request a login ticket from staff,
connect your wireless device to the Library Public WiFi network and then
launch your device’s Web browser to access the network.
Limitations and Disclaimers
Holmes County District Public Library is
providing wireless access as a public service free of charge subject to the terms and
conditions of use as follows.
- Wireless access is provided to the public
as a service free of charge on an "as is" basis with no guarantee and no
warranty.
- The Internet Use Policy of the
Holmes County District Public Library applies to any use of the wireless access
service.
- Information passing through the Library's
wireless access is not secured and could be monitored, captured, or altered by
others.
- It is the customer's sole responsibility
to protect his/her information from all risks associated with using the Internet,
including any damage, loss, or theft that may occur as a result of my use of the
Library wireless access.
- Library staff is not able to provide
technical assistance and assumes no responsibility for laptop configurations,
security or changes to data files resulting from connection to the Library's
network.
- The Library assumes no responsibility for
the safety of equipment; users must keep their equipment with them at all times and
may only use electrical outlets at public tables.
- In using this free Internet access, the
customer agrees and hereby releases, indemnifies, and holds harmless, the Holmes
County District Public Library and its employees from any damage that may result in
my use of this wireless access.
- While using this wireless access, the
customer acknowledges that he/she is subject to, and agrees to abide by all laws,
and all rules and regulations of any applicable Local Governments, the State of
Ohio and the federal government that is applicable to Internet use.
- Wireless Printing is available
by downloading and installing the small temporary Print Client.
Hardware
Requirements
- You will need a WiFi-compliant 802.11b or
802.11g wireless Ethernet device installed in your laptop or wireless device in
order to gain access.
Software
Requirements
- Use a web browser, such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Netscape.
- Set your TCP client software to obtain
addresses automatically from a server.
Install and configure TCP/IP software by
opening the Network icon in the Control Panel. Under Protocol settings, add TCP/IP.
Set the IP address to obtain an IP address automatically. Leave all other fields
blank. Restart the laptop for the changes to take effect.
Windows OS
- Right click My Network Places/Network
Neighborhood
- Go to Properties

Double click Wireless Adapter (or simply click on your
vendor icon for the wireless adapter in the lower right hand tool bar)
- SSID (network name) = Library
Public WiFi and a DHCP address will be allocated automatically
- WEP = disable WEP
encryption
- Mode or Network Type = Infrastructure
mode or access point
- Restart (reboot) the computer
(this is not a requirement with Windows XP)
- Open a Web browser

MAC OS
- Click on System Preferences from
the Apple Menu
- Double click the Network
logo
- Under Show Menu select
AirPort
- Close window
- Open Internet Connect and turn on
AirPort
- From Network Menu select
Library Public
- Open a Web browser
Troubleshooting Windows NT, XP, and Windows
2000 Systems
- Go to Start, Run and type: CMD. Click OK.
A command prompt window will appear.
- Type the following in the command prompt
window:

- ipconfig/all: Displays the full
configuration information
- ipconfig/release: Releases the IP
address
- ipconfig/renew: Renews the IP
address
Troubleshooting Windows 95 and Windows 98
Systems
- Go to Start, Run and type: WINIPCFG.
Click OK. The IP configuration window will appear.
- Click on the More Info button.
If you are having an IP conflict, click on the Release All button to release the
current IP and then click on the Renew All button.
Troubleshooting Apple Macintosh Powerbooks
or iBooks
- Your laptop must have the MacTCP Control
Panel installed. This control panel comes with recent versions of the system
software and should be pre-installed.
- If you have other MacTCP configurations
that you would like to save, MacTCP Switcher is a useful utility for storing
several set-ups.
- To configure your MacTCP, choose to
Connect via Ethernet.
