Support Children's Programs

The Holmes County District Public Libraries provide vital literacy programs for children, infant to adolescence, throughout the year. Your children, grandchildren or someone you know may already take part in our programs. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) indicates that too many Ohio children are not academically ready to enter kindergarten. By providing storytimes for children five years old and under, we introduce the pre-literacy skills necessary for kindergarten readiness. We continue our commitment with these youngsters as they grow by offering school-age programming focusing on science, history and geography to help reinforce the ODE academic standards.

Summer reading and other special programs are also conducted throughout the year to further enhance their educational and leisure-time experience. Our hands-on, interactive programs focus on literacy not only as educational but also as a lifelong, leisure-time activity. In 2008, we reached more than 3,300 children and young adults in 138 programs conducted throughout the year.

Due to the current state of the economy, our program budget has been completely eliminated for 2009 forcing us to rely on the generosity of others. We are already implementing many changes to help offset this devastating cut while trying to maintain the quality of our programs. In order to accomplish our goal, we need your help.
