The Rub-a-dub-dub Club is summer reading fun and activities for your

little one, ages birth to 3 years old.

Reading to your baby not only creates a special bonding time together,

but also builds their brain power, helps them learn language,

encourages speech and prepares them to be readers.

The club is split into two months, with each month featuring 14 early

literacy reading/activity suggestions

(Words, Storytelling, Loving Books, Using Books, Sounds, ABC’s).

 Registration begins June 3rd.

Stop by the Children’s Desk at the Central Library or the East Branch

to register your child and pick-up your activity/reading log!

When June’s reading record is completed, stop by the Central Library

or East Branch after July 1st to get a prize and pick up

July’s reading record.

Once July’s sheet is completed, bring the record in after August 1st

to receive a brand new board book.

Don’t forget that August 5th is the last day to turn in completed

reading records!

Parents or caregivers who return the July reading record

will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Dining with the Dead—Thursday, June 13th @ 7 pm

Take a tour of Oak Hill Cemetery and learn about burial customs, gravestone symbolism and how to do a tombstone rubbing. Light finger foods will be provided. Registration is required. We will meet at the Central Library.

Paranormal Investigations—Saturday, July 13th @ 7 pm, Hotel Millersburg. Registration Required.

Teen Summer Reading Program

Sign-ups begin May 28th.

The Teen summer reading program begins June 3rd and runs through

July 8th for ages 11-18.

To register stop by the Central Library or East Branch and pick up

your registration incentives:

Read 4 hours each week to be eligible for the grand prize and weekly drawings.

Hours can be logged beginning June 10th by calling the library or

visiting the Central or East Branch Libraries.

(Grand Prize drawing will take place July 15, 2013 )

Six—2nd chance winners will receive a bag, book and movie.

Weekly drawings begin June 8th.

Door prize drawings will take place at every Teen event.

Attendance at Teen events will earn extra entries into the grand prize drawing.

Wednesday, June 5 @ 11 am – Akron Zoomobile. Help kick-off summer reading and join us as we welcome the Akron Zoomobile! Recommended ages 3 & up.

NOTE: SPECIAL TIME: Wednesday, June 12 @ 10:30 am – I Dig Reading! Using rope spinning, juggling, comedy, audience participation and magic, Cowboy Mark is on the hunt for The Golden Nugget a treasure trove of books! Recommended ages 3 & up.

Wednesday, June 19 @ 11 am – Dig It? Draw It with Jeff Nicholas. Have a “hole” lot of fun as Jeff Nicholas entertains with original illustrations and humorous stories while teaching how to create his quirky, underground characters using a simple “draw along” cartooning method. Recommended ages 5 & up.

Wednesday, June 26 @ 11 am – The Wilderness Center, Rocks Rock! Open House.  Families will travel eight rock stations together, read directions and try simple activities—a rock star contest, rock cycle game, fossils, rock scavenger hunt, and more!  Non-reading children will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday July 3 @ 11 am – 12 pm. Journey to the Center of the Library! Journey back in time to the days of Pirates, desert adventures and rock exploration. Join us for crafts and activities. Recommended for ages 3 & up.

Wednesday, July 10 @ 11 am – Dig into Reading with Marty and Michele! Join us as we wrap up summer reading with songs, skits and more! All ages welcome.

How many times per second does a hummingbird beat it’s wings?

How many miles do Arctic Terns travel during migration?

What bird says, “Drink your teeeeeeee” when it sings?

Enjoy donuts and juice while learning cool facts about birds through fun,

hands-on activities and crafts.

Learn some nifty ways to identify birds using size, shape, color,

behavior, habitat and sound!

Bring your binoculars if you have a pair and join us for a morning stroll as we

check out what feathered friends frequent the library property.

Those attending will have a chance to win a Bird Lovers Gift Basket!
