When your child begins to read, a whole new world opens up to them – a world full of imagination, knowledge and wonder. The Holmes County District Public Library system offers a variety of beginning or “EZ” readers to help your child build the reading skills they need to succeed in life as well as cultivate a life-long love of books.
If visiting the Central Library in Millersburg, the EZ Readers can be found on the free-standing bookshelves in the back of the children’s room. The spine labels are color-coded to help make finding books for your child’s reading level easier.
- Blue – the easiest books with only a few words per page, for beginning readers.
- Green – has several words per page with picture clues.
- Orange – text which is broken into paragraphs, for good readers.
- Yellow – books which are broken into chapters, for better readers
Here’s a tip to help your child chose a book that’s geared towards their reading level. Have him or her read one page from the book. If there are more than five words that they cannot pronounce nor understand, then the book is probably too difficult for them. This will not only help your child as they begin to read, but will also be of value as they advance through their educational years.
Please remember that the children’s staff is always available to assist you.
