Each month, from September through December, we will be offering a grab-and-go craft/activity kit at the Central Library for kids ages 2 – 12 while supplies last.
The month of September means that Fall is just around the corner and we’ll soon be enjoying crisp, crunchy apples and the beautiful changing colors of the leaves! Did you know that it’s also the month we celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday? John Chapman was born September 26, 1774 in Massachusetts and is most famously know to have planted thousands of apple trees across the Midwest.

Below are a few activities to get you into the fall spirit.
Apple Coffee Filter Craft
For this craft you’ll need the supplies provided as well as a spray bottle filled with water and markers. Color the enclosed coffee filter with your markers. Once you’ve finished, use the spray bottle and spray the filter so the colors begin to run together. Let dry overnight. Trim the coffee filter so it fits onto the back of the apple cutout. Now it’s ready to hang in your window to catch the light!
If you need additional directions click here for more information.
If you don’t have access to a spray bottle, you can use a cup full of water and your fingers to sprinkle the water over your coffee filter.
Fall Triangle Tree
For this craft you will need scissors, pencil and glue, we’ve provided the rest!
Cut the enclosed tissue paper into strips and lightly sketch triangles on them (see picture at right). Cut out the triangles.
Glue the tree trunk onto the brown paper. Next glue the triangles onto your tree.
