Prairie Township is filled with a rich history beginning with the Delaware Indians to the first white settlers in the area in 1809, and the crossing of Colonel Crawford’s men who camped near the Big Spring, located along State Route 83, north of Holmesville. According to historical accounts, the Underground Railroad passed through the township.
