Knox Township

Holmes County, Knox TownshipThe first white man to settle in Holmes County was a fur trader who made his home in what is now Knox Township.

Solomon Sigafoos was another early settler of the township, settling in 1812 on land located on County Road 22.

Knox Township was also home to many Native Americans, and included the villages of Hell Town and Pipe Town. The Greenville Treaty Line also passes through this area.

The highest point in Holmes County, Coal Bank Hill, is also located in this township, and is named such due to the drift mines located on either side of the hill. Click here for more information regarding the drift mines.
