Searching for the Hendersons

While working on the Oak Hill Cemetery plot map, I came upon a grouping of tombstones that were very worn and difficult to read.  When I tried to do a gravestone rubbing, the images were just a bunch of scribbles.  The more I pondered over these stones, the more I wondered what family was buried here.

I could make out the first stone, James Henderson.  From the cemetery inscription book, it appears that James died in 1851.  His wife, Susan, is buried next to him.  Her stone was also somewhat easy to read.  At the end of the row was the stone for their daughter, Isabella.   The stones in between were very difficult to read.  (They are pictured at the bottom of the post.)

After much deliberation and multiple tries at pictures from different angles, I gave up and called the village office.  I was told that there are Henderson family members in section 1.  The ones I was missing were: Rebecca, Samuel, Elizabeth (wife of Samuel), Andrew, and Edward.  These stones may be for these family members.  The guardian sale for Susan Henderson was listed in The Farmer Hub in the March 7, 1867 issue.More of the Henderson family information from Holmes County Ohio to 1985. hendersons family

This still doesn’t tell me who is buried in which Henderson tomb, but at least I have more information about who “might” be buried there.
