Today’s lunch and a cemetery is at Prairie Township Cemetery. It is a beautiful, summer day. The temperature is 78 degrees and the sun is shining. Lunch today is veggies and hummus, with a diet coke. Don’t tell my husband; I’m supposed to be cutting back. ; ) The windows are down, and Baba O’riley by The Who is blasting on the radio. There is traffic backed up on SR 83 going out of Holmesville, because they are working on the road right where we want to go straight on CR 245 instead of going around the left to Wooster.
The coordinates are 40.644457, -81.925774
If I would have stayed on SR 83, I would have passed the Croco House. This house was used as a station on the Underground Railroad. I took pictures of some of the Croco family tombstones. These stones will appear with the others on Flickr. There is a book in the Genealogy and Local History Room titled, Holmes County Ohio to 1985, that tells more about the history of this house. Currently, it is owned by a private resident. Keifer Croco donated the land for the Prairie Township Cemetery. The cemetery is about a half a mile down the road to the left. You can’t miss it.
