Lunch and a Cemetery — Old Crawford Cemetery

Imagine a sweltering day (not in this picture–I returned in April of the next year to take pictures for a patron) in Holmes County Ohio.  The bank marquee reads 91 degrees, and The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City” is playing in the background.  I’ve got my egg salad sandwich and Lemon/Lime Sparkling ICE from Rhodes IGA.  Now, imagine a winding, country road called “Dog Pound Road” that takes you to a smaller winding, country road to Old Crawford Cemetery.  The cemetery is positioned on a wooded hill on the left of a curve in Township Road 323.  There are flags near the road to mark the cemetery, but if the flags weren’t there, you would be sure to miss it.

The coordinates for this cemetery are 40.5902277, -81.9299472

Here is how you get there.  Go west on SR 39 out of town.  You will pass the Fairgrounds on the right.  The fairgrounds will be moving soon (but not real soon), so don’t use that as a permanent marker–more like a pencil marker : )  There is a Marathon station on the left across from CR 349.  Turn right and go until you come to TR 323.  You will pass the Dog Warden’s office and the Caring Station.  Keep going straight–do not turn left with 349.  You will go a short distance to the cemetery.  There is a slight hill and curve to the left.  There is no parking; I pulled my car far to the right.  Also, make sure to wear high boots, because there appeared to be lots of poison ivy and poison oak.  I may be scratching all night.
